Steven Sim is currently serving as the Minister of Human Resources under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s Unity Government since December 2023. He has also represented Bukit Mertajam as its Member of Parliament since 2013. Prior to his current role, Steven was Deputy Minister of Finance II from December 2022 to December 2023.

His political career includes a term as Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports from July 2018 to February 2020, during former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad’s tenure. Steven’ sentry into politics began with his role as a local government councillor for the Seberang Perai Municipal Council in 2011. Apart from his political role, Steven also sits on the governing board of the Penang Institute and was formerly the executive secretary of the Network of Social Democracy in Asia.
